We are able to recover data from most optical disc media. Data loss (or more commonly inaccessibility) is most often caused by scratches on the underside (non-printed side) of the disc; the usual result of repeated use or mishandling. The solution to this problem is to perform what is known as disc resurfacing. The process actually removes a very thin layer of the plastic protective layer, and re-polishes the data surface to it's original condition. The disc will then function as new. If the printed side of an optical disc becomes scratched or damaged, you lose the reflective surface behind the data layer, causing the laser beam used by your CD or DVD drive to read the disc to pass right through. This type of damage, as well as disc deformation (warping) is not repairable.
We can perform optical disc resurfacing right in our store, quickly and inexpensively while you wait. Other issues with optical discs causing data loss stem from faulty or improper authoring or failure to "close" the disc, and are most common with discs made at home or in one of the new DVD camcorders.
