Custom Cut Records & Dubplates

After 20+ years of listening to CD's people worldwide are re-discovering their vinyl record albums and finding that the sound quality is actually superior to their digital counterpart. Believe it or not, vinyl is making a comeback with over 800,000 albums pressed in the United States and over 1.5 million disks pressed in the UK in 2007! Many recording artists are now releasing their music on only vinyl records and in the .mp3 format for downloading...

For drums and bass Club mixes, MC back beats, audiophile recordings, jukebox collectors - ANYONE needing custom cut records... let 1 Up Technologies get you back in the groove!

Our engineer has 30 years experience with disc recording. We create industry standard recordings on new, professional quality blank discs, using freshly rebuilt recording equipment and electronics. We offer standard weight lacquers and pro-duty lacquer Reference Lites, which have a lighter core and thicker coating for greater durability. We also cut master discs for pressing vinyl copies, and can coordinate the entire manufacturing process for you. We can also assist you with music licensing for projects that you plan to distribute or sell.

Any standard speed is available; 16 2/3 RPM, 33 1/3 RPM, 45 RPM, or 78 RPM. Jukebox collectors can hear current music on their vintage 45 or 78 RPM machines! Large center hole 7 inch '45' blanks are available, as well as the 10 inch 78 RPM size. Prices include setup, disc cutting, blank media, a blank white or printed label with titles and side numbers (specify which you prefer when ordering), and an acid-free archival quality white paper sleeve. 12 inch discs include a glossy white cardboard jacket with center hole.

Your source material can be submitted on CD or DVD in data or audio format, DAT, MiniDisc, audio cassette, or open reel tape in any 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch format. You can also upload files directly to our file server in .wav or .aiff format. We will accept .mp3's and other compressed formats, but do not recommend using them as the sound quality is not as good as an uncompressed digital format. Editing and mastering services are available at additional charge.

Additional Information

Please provide us with a final stereo mix of your material, as you want it to sound, without attempting to boost or cut any particular frequency range. If you have questions regarding preparation of your material for cutting, please call us and ask. We will be happy to help you, and submitting properly prepared material will result in faster turnaround times for your finished discs. Mastering services are available at additional charge.

Our discs are cut on Scully lathes, known for their superior mechanics and stability. We operate two mastering suites, one for stereo discs and one for mono. (Mono can produce higher levels of bass for club use.) Our stereo suite uses a newly rebuilt Westrex cutting system, designed to deliver higher levels with better clarity and dynamics. Our mono suite uses a rebuilt and modified Grampian system which was one of the highest quality monophonic systems in disc cutting, and was used by Motown and other major labels in the production of many now-classic records.

The blank discs we use are made with the highest quality aluminum substrate materials obtainable, and are coated with lacquer formulas developed over a period of 70 years. These discs will last with comparable durbility to that of a vinyl pressing, if played with a known-good stylus at the appropriate tracking weight, and on a turntable of reasonable quality that is properly maintained and adjusted.

Please note that our discs are cut with the industry standard RIAA encoding equalization curve, as all records have been since 1955, and require a proper phonograph preamp or phono-specific input in order to be reproduced properly. You cannot play any record by plugging a turntable in to a 'CD', 'AUX', or 'TAPE' input as these do not have RIAA circuitry to properly equalize the sound coming from the disc. Either an external phono preamp or a receiver/amplifier with a 'phono' input must be used to properly play any record. Some newly manufactured turntables have a built-in preamp, so a 'CD' input can be used, and many USB turntables have the RIAA preamp built in. Please check your equipment prior to playing any record.

Our discs are used by audiophiles, collectors, and DJ's in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact us. We'd love to hear from you!
